Patient, experienced children's barbers — 30 minutes from Kendal via the M6
Every parent knows the difference between a barber who tolerates children and one who's genuinely good with them. The first type rushes through the cut, gets visibly frustrated when a three-year-old won't sit still, and sends you home with a haircut that looks like it was done under duress. The second type works at the child's pace, keeps things calm and fun, and delivers a result that actually looks like a proper haircut.
That's the reputation we've built at BB's, and it's why families from as far as Kendal make the half-hour drive up the M6 to see us. Andrew and Isaac cut children's hair every day — from one-year-olds having their very first trim to teenagers who've been watching fade tutorials on TikTok. They know how to read a child's mood, when to pause, when to distract, and when to just crack on. The result is kids who leave looking great and, more importantly, who aren't traumatised about coming back next time.
The setting helps too. We're in a quiet village with free parking right outside — no wrestling a pushchair through Kendal town centre, no hunting for a space on Highgate, no dragging a reluctant child through a busy shopping street. You pull up, walk in, and it's done.
We do every children's style going. Here's what we see most:
Not sure what to go for? Just describe what you're after and we'll suggest something that suits your child's hair type. If there are school rules to work around, we'll keep it within the guidelines.
If your little one is having their very first haircut, or if they've had a bad experience somewhere else and are anxious about trying again, here are a few things that help:
We've done hundreds of first haircuts. Some children are absolutely fine from the first snip. Others need a bit more patience, a couple of breaks, and maybe a sit on mum or dad's lap. Either way, we'll get there without any stress or drama. For more tips, read our full guide: Your Child's First Haircut — What to Expect.
Head north from Kendal on the M6. It's about 28 miles of straightforward motorway driving — past Tebay services and through the Lune Gorge, which is a cracking bit of scenery to keep the kids entertained through the window. The whole journey takes around 30 minutes. Come off at Junction 40 and follow the A6 south. Turn onto Skirsgill Lane and we're right there.
Free parking directly outside the door means no stress. No multi-storey car parks, no circling Kendal's one-way system, no persuading a toddler to walk half a mile from wherever you managed to park. You pull up, unbuckle the kids, and you're in. We'd strongly recommend booking online before you set off — it guarantees your slot and means there's no sitting around waiting with fidgety children.
All children's haircuts are £10 regardless of age — toddlers, primary school and secondary school. Junior skinfades and taper fades are £14 for under-16s.
We cut hair for children from age one upwards. Toddlers can sit on a parent's lap and we work at their pace — no rushing, no impatience. We're just as happy with a wriggly two-year-old as we are with a teenager.
We'd strongly recommend booking online before making the drive from Kendal. It guarantees your child's slot, avoids any waiting around, and means you know exactly when to arrive. Weekends and school holidays are especially busy.
