Patient, friendly children's barbers — a short drive from Keswick
Finding a barber who's genuinely good with children isn't always easy, and in a smaller town like Keswick the options are limited. That's why a growing number of families make the 25-minute drive along the A66 to bring their kids to us on Skirsgill Lane, Penrith.
Andrew and Isaac cut children's hair every day, from wriggly toddlers having their very first trim to teenagers after the latest fade they've seen online. They know how to keep things calm and relaxed, work at a child's pace, and still deliver a cut that looks properly good. There's no rushing, no impatience, and no judgement if your little one needs a break halfway through or wants to sit on your lap.
The shop itself helps too. We're in a quiet village setting with free parking right outside the door, so there's none of the stress of navigating Keswick's narrow streets or hunting for a space. You pull up, walk in, and it's done. Several of our Keswick families combine the trip with a stop at Rheged or errands in Penrith.
We do every children's style going, but here are the most popular ones we see:
Not sure what to ask for? Just tell us what look you're going for and we'll suggest something that suits your child's hair type and works within any school rules they need to follow.
If your child is coming for their very first haircut, a few simple things can make the experience go smoothly:
We've been through hundreds of first haircuts. Some children take to it immediately, others need more patience and a few goes. Either way, we'll get there without any stress. Read our full guide: Your Child's First Haircut — What to Expect.
Head east out of Keswick on the A66 towards Penrith. The dual carriageway takes you past Threlkeld and along the base of Blencathra. It's about 25 minutes of easy, straightforward driving. Come off at the Skirsgill Lane turning and turn onto Skirsgill Lane. We're right there with free parking directly outside.
No battling for parking in Keswick town centre, no meters to feed, no time limits. Just pull up and walk in. We'd recommend booking online ahead of time so your child's slot is reserved and there's no sitting around waiting. During school holidays we get busier, so booking ahead is especially worthwhile then.
All children's haircuts are £10, whether that's a toddler, primary school or secondary school age. Junior skinfades and taper fades are £14 for under-16s.
We cut hair for children from age one upwards. For very young children, they can sit on a parent's lap and we work at their pace. No rushing.
We'd recommend booking online, especially on weekends and during school holidays. It means your child isn't sitting around getting restless before their turn, and you know exactly when to arrive.
